There has been much discussion of Aussie values, and how immigrants to Australia need to understand those values. David Chaike has written an excellent article in the SMH spelling out how Steve Irwin was the embodiment of many of those values:

  • Decency
  • Honesty
  • Self-reliance
  • Hard work
  • Tolerance
  • Family
  • Patriotism
  • Practicality
  • Optimism

Read the article; it’s a classic.

Finally! A blog from Jim Wallis and friends providing “fresh conversation about faith, politics, and society”. That will be added to my “must read daily” list.

Finally, it has been shown that four-wheel-drives caused fewer accidents than cars, and are no more likely to cause severe injuries than other vehicles. That was found in an insurance survey carried out by the NSW State Government.

Apparently that study only included two-car crashes, so accidents such as roll-overs were excluded.

There was also no discussion of fuel consumption. Cars are usually better in that department!
