The purpose of this site is to comment on / report on life, politics and things that matter, from the perspective of an Australian Christian. Occasionally there will be a “silly” post, too; something that is funny or weird or just plain light-hearted (can’t be all serious).
“Selah” comes from the Hebrew word, meaning “to pause and reflect” or “stop and listen”. And so, this blog is a place to visit and pause and reflect.
My guiding principles are (and this list will keep on growing and being fine-tuned):
- One of the guiding principles throughout the Bible is that it is important to God that we care for the “powerless”: the poor, the widow, foreigners, the elderly, the fatherless.
- That care for the powerless involves not only love and compassion, but justice. A characteristic of God is that he pursues justice. That means speaking out on behalf of those who cannot, ensuring fairness, and positive discrimination of the “powerless”, the underprivileged. God has created all people with equal worth, and so prejudice and discrimination are wrong.
- From the beginning of our world, God intended us to “tend and to keep” the world our environment, being good stewards of our environment.
I don’t want this to be a religious thing, to fall under any particular dogma, but have just mentioned all of this to give some background as to what is my motivation.
